Helpful Hints
Before Training
Contact us by phone to pre-register and pay for all courses. Visa and MasterCard are accepted by phone, and Debit/Cash are accepted in person.
Ensure your Alberta Driver’s License will remain current for the duration of your training, and road test.
Confirm that your license is not suspended, and you have paid off all outstanding tickets prior to starting your training.
Check that your driver’s license is a NON-GDL Class 5 and you meet all other conditions on the license, such as wearing appropriate corrective eyewear (contact lenses or glasses.)
For Class 1 and Class 1 Experience and Equivalency students, a driver’s medical is required before beginning training. (We can provide assistance if you are unsure of how to locate a physician.)
Complete your Air Brake Knowledge exam before beginning training.
During Training
Plan to arrive at CCA at least 15 minutes prior to your lesson start.
Be “Fit for Duty”- As per the Traffic Safety Act and other commercial vehicle laws and regulations, it is illegal to be impaired when operating any commercial vehicle. Do not be impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue when you report for your lesson. CCA will refuse service to anyone suspected to be impaired.
Always check the forecast and dress for the weather. Having an extra layer or hat/windbreaker with you can help you stay comfortable as you learn.
Ensure you are as rested as possible prior to each lesson. Eat a light meal beforehand and avoid excess caffeine or sugary drinks. For full day lessons, ensure you have snacks/lunch, or are prepared to purchase a meal during a break.
Double-check you have your license and any other required paperwork with you before you report to CCA for your lesson.
The Road Test
The goal of any Road Test is for the student to have a SAFE drive, and show the skills they have learned. Keeping your focus on having a safe, courteous drive, rather than the examiner’s clipboard, will keep you calm and help you pass your test.
Even if you think you may have accumulated enough points to fail, continue to drive as confidently and safely as you can. Your highest priority is always the safety of you, your passengers, and other road users-stay focused on that task.
